Hotline miami movie
Note that in Hotline Miami, the pig mask ( Aubrey) is unlocked right before the Decadence chapter, thus suggesting that Jacket was canonically wearing the mask during the events of the chapter and as he was captured on camera (although in issue #1 of the comic, the security footage shows him wearing the Richard Mask instead.) To the general public, the animals masks worn by Jacket would have been one of the more memorable elements of his murders. The killer is shown wearing a pig mask.

Similarly, in issue #1 of the comic, a news report on the Jacket's capture reminds the viewers that the killer was recorded kidnapping a girl from the house of a "famous movie producer", and that she was later found dead "in an apartment downtown".
In-game newspapers in the first game state that Jacket was captured on security cameras as he "abducted" an "unidentified female" from the Producer's villa. The rape and abduction of the girl refers to Jacket's rescue of Girlfriend.Specific elements of the movie mirror the events of Hotline Miami, and give some insight to how Jacket's rampage is perceived by the public: Relationship to the events of Hotline Miami As he bursts into the room, the girl yells that she's "not fucking girlfriend" and shoots him with a pistol several times, killing him. While being interrogated at the police station, he makes use of the interrogator's moment of distraction and kills him, then proceeds to massacre his way through the police station towards the room where the girl is giving her statement. At the pink phone's behest, he goes with the police willingly, so that they will take him to the girl. She escapes and calls the police, who arrive at the Butcher's home to arrest him.

The girl manages to free herself while the Pig Butcher is asleep. He rapes a helpless girl, then abducts her and takes her to his home, chaining her to the bathtub. Įventually, the Butcher invades a house and kills several teenagers during a party. The Butcher's murders include: killing the cashier in a store, an entire family in their own house, a group of teenagers in their apartment, and a bunch of Russian mobsters.

The film focuses on a serial killer named "Pig Butcher", an obese, muscular psychopath who receives orders to kill from a hallucinatory pink telephone and who wears a pig mask during his killing sprees. Note: the description is based on in-game information, the comics and promotional material (the latter may not be canon, or be only partially canon to the in-game universe.)
3 Relationship to the events of Hotline Miami.
Still, Hotline Miami certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea, but for gamers who don't mind mature themes, David Lynch-style storytelling and new-wave, 80s electronica fused with grunge-synth, will easily take a liking to the amalgamation of gory violence that is Hotline Miami. However, Hotline Miami manages to avoid dipping too deep into grime-culture like Manhunt or The Suffering, which makes it much more replayable than aforementioned titles. The game's combination of dark thematic characterization like Drive, some psychologically disturbing elements of The Manchurian Candidate and exploitation violence similar to movies like Death Wish and The Exterminator sets the game apart from anything else out there, save for maybe Surreal Software's The Suffering: Ties That Bind and Rockstar's Manhunt 2. The real challenge, though, is the fact that you die if you get shot or stabbed means you have to really time and tactically plan your route of attack or move like a rabbit on speed-crack to avoid being clobbered, shot or stabbed to death. Using the fallen foe as a human-shield and taking out any remaining guys is just a cherry on top of a sundae. One of my favorite things in the game is using a shotgun to blast a door open to knock a guy down while simultaneously taking out whoever is left standing. The gameplay mechanics allow you to do all sorts of nifty things, like you can kick in a door and knock a guy (or several guys) down, you can throw anything you can pick up to stun or incapacitate foes and you can use sound and sight to lure or misdirect your enemies. You see, in Hotline Miami there is no hand-holding on how you complete most of the levels (there are a few levels that have specific restrictions which limit you on how you can complete very specific tasks, but these are far and few between).
